A topload washing machine that will make others envious

Despite the growing popularity of frontload washing machines, the new minimal performance norms of January 1st 2007, in Canada and the United States, forced manufacturers to better the traditional topload washing machines otherwise their sale would have been prohibited. Furthermore, adding to this tightening of the efficiency criteria imposed by the Office de l'efficacité énergétique and the Department of Energy are severe criteria for manufacturers who wish to display an ENERGY STAR symbol on their topload models.

Whirlpool's Cabrio

And so it is in this context that Whirlpool developed a new generation of topload washing machines without a stirrer, thus less harmful for your fabrics. Thanks to its direct shower cleaning injection system, the Cabrio takes out stains and stubborn dirt, eliminating nearly the need to deal with these beforehand. As a shower is more economic with water than a bath is, the Cabrio saves up to 44% of the water and 55% of the energy normally used, which are similar numbers to what a frontload washing machine available on the market now would produce. With 11 cycles of washing, its noise reduction system, its stainless drum, its automatic soap distributor, and its similar loading capacity to frontload washing machines, Warrington Ellacott marketing director and senior at Whirlpool Canada can affirm "having created a device that offers all the advantages of a frontload washing machine". Furthermore, in his opinion, many consumers prefer topload washing machines because they can't or don't like bending down like you need to with a frontload washing machine.

One of the Cabrio's interesting details is the option of a transparent glass lid that resist to scratches and shocks as well as an illuminated control panel which lets you know the state of the washing in process while it's working.

Finally, don't forget that the Cabrio, having many things in common with frontload washing machines, needs to be used with an HE detergent in order to optimise its efficiency.

Its sale price? Around 1000$ for the 4.5 cubic ft. capacity model.
