The NFridge refrigerator, developed a few years ago by a team of industrial designers-Roger Santos, Nuno Horta, and Andreia Lopes-for the Electrolux design laboratory is to say the least very far from the archetypal image of this category of household appliances. The use of new materials and of new colours literally stands out compared to the classic image of the appliance and tends to reflect the new generation of consumers’ personalities better. Designers evolving at the heart of this team intervene not only on the aesthetic of the products but also by reflecting on the use and structure of the appliances. Their conclusion? The modularity in the refrigeration field should be a viable solution.
The interest of this intelligent conception is to be able to store foods of the same category in separate and independent compartments. From the hygiene point of view, this way of doing things limits blends, thus chances of contamination are superior to the one we practice now. Moreover, the stackable cubes, easily movable and that can be put in the four corners of the kitchen, can store foods in a very orderly way. So there are fewer risks to find an out of date yogurt hidden behind turkey leftovers from Thanksgiving!

Beyond its exclusive design, the NFridge distinguishes itself also by a new magnetic refrigeration technology that produces a constant cold more quickly and that is cleaner for the environment. On the energy side, let’s add that the NFridge also only makes the used volume work. Empty refrigerators are over, but energy greedy the eve of food shopping day! Letting heat get into the whole refrigerator when you have craving is also over; and if you spill a juice container, you don’t need to leave the refrigerator door open while you clean it. On the energy side, let’s add that the NFridge only works the used volume.
This modularity seems designed also for those who have a small living space, such as a student residence or also for those who only cook a little. So, the beauty of modularity is that there’s something for everyone.
Don’t get too excited too quickly by all these promises of an improved usage because the NFridge isn’t always offered on the market… You just have to hope that one day, it will be!
